2011 Terzolo Malvasia Istria Croatia
A peninsula bordering Italy and Slovenia, Istria is crucial to Croatia's wine culture with a long history and indigenous varietals. This bottling is Terzolo's signature white wine, which is comprised of one of these indigenous varietals: 100% Malvazija Istarska. The grapes are grown in Istria's dark red soils which seem to impart the brine of the Adriatic. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and exhibits fresh aromatic charactertistics, but with a creamy mouthfeel associated with time spent on the lees. It could be considered a hypothetical cross between a barrel-fermented New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and an Alto Adige Pinot Gris, but with the distinct terroir of the Adriatic.
