2009 Celler de Capcanes "Mas Donis" Barrica Montsant

SKU #1134216 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Vivid ruby. Explosively perfumed nose displays raspberry, fresh rose and sexy oak spices. Lush but energetic, with vivid red berry flavors and a silky, seamless texture. Turns more tangy on the finish, which clings with very good tenacity. (11/ 2011)

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The red wines begin with the 2009 Mas Donis Barrica, a blend of 80% Garnacha and 20% Syrah aged for 9 months in French and American oak. It gives up a fragrant nose of mineral, spice box, black cherry, and black raspberry. In the glass it reveals a bit of structure, ripe, spicy black fruits, and excellent length. It is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 4-5 years. (5/ 2011)

89 points Wine Enthusiast

Smoky and dry for starters, then crisp in the mouth, with bright red fruit flavors of cherry and plum. Picks up oak, heat and sweetness on the finish, but overall this is exactly the type of flavor-packed red wine most people want. Grenache with 15% Syrah. (11/ 2011)

K&L Notes

Southwest of Barcelona in the Priorato hills, Celler de Capcanes also makes Kosher and organic wines, although this cuvee is neither. "Mas Donis" is first in their line of fruity, ready to go Garnacha-based wines.
