Another quality expression from Smooth Ambler, I am now in the habit of getting excited for their new releases. In a world of diminishing stocks and shortages, it is wonderful to have some older, and quality, expressions available to us.
Ok, on to the brown stuff. Spices and graham cracker waft out of the glass, a soft aroma of vanilla adds a nice base to the nose, straight forward and enticing. The palate is sweet and supple; the corn adds a very nice roundness without making it flabby. My first impression was that of dried orange peel and creamy hazel nuts. There are hints of darker spices to give it back bone, clove, anise, leading into a soft finish of vanilla and pepper. Overall a quality Bourbon that is sure to please those of us in need of something with a decent amount of age on it.
