 The 2010 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is all about tension. Tasted after the 2009, the 2010 is quite a bit brighter in its aromas and flavors, with fewer of the buttery, tropical notes found in the 2009 and more distinct shades of white fleshed fruit.The saline-infused finish makes it hard to resist a second taste. I imagine the 2010 will still be a spectacular bottle at age 20. Today, it is a mere infant.

If you have to taste one Italian white this year, let it be this one, one of Italy's greatest white wines, capable of aging for decades. The vineyard is planted in an ancient, exposed coral reef perched on the side of a cliff high up in the Italian Alps. 2010 is an outstanding vintage and the wines voluptuous body is accentuated by a firm acidic core and swirls of mineral and a distinct salty finish. Delicious and interesting with layers of flavors. It is dry with a balanced soft and juicy body. I think that the Vorberg will go well with medium bodied fish or with chicken.

Occasionally you may be fortunate enough to taste a wine of such focus and intensity, such extraordinary purity, that you cannot help but wonder briefly if you are worthy enough to drink it. And the answer is, of course, yes, albeit with the appropriate degree of awe and reverence. The 2010 Cantina Terlan Vorberg Pinot Bianco Riserva is one such wine. Intensely mineral in expression, lightly spicy, with depths you could lose yourself in. An unparalleled effort from a superb vintage.

I can't think of a wine I'd love to introduce you to more than this. The aging potential I've indicated is not a typo, I've had these wines from the 1950's and 1960's they age extraordinarily well.

From a vineyard so extreme in its alpine situation that it can only be accessed via suspension bridge and worked by shovel we get one of the most magnificent expressions of Pinot Bianco on the planet. It is intensely mineral and acid-driven, with lemony citrus and crisp pear aromas and flavors, leesy richness on the midpalate, and a nervy, saline finish that goes on and on. Tasting it made me crave a handful of those wonderful old-fashioned sea salt potato chips, but the food pairing possibilities (not to mention aging potential) for this gorgeous white are seemingly endless.

This Pinot Bianco is from a hillside in the town of Terlano in the Alto Adige where the soil is sandy, gravely and calcareous. The first two things I have written down are OMG & Wow! Perfectly balanced, this wine has incredible depth and concentration with focus, there is ripe apples and pears with minerals on the front palate and is very rich and creamy on the mid-palate, great length on the finish. This can keep very easily over the next 5 years, but you will what to drinks lots of this during the summer season.

If you would like some great white wine that drinks well now and will hold for at least a decade to come, and want it for less than $25, don't miss the Vorberg Pinot Bianco Riserva. This is powerful white wine that could be served in the place of Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet from a top producer with its leesy richness and weight. There is no trace of oak in this beauty, and the long, focused finish is in the class of our better bottles of Champagne! Check it out before it is gone!

This has to be one of the finest Pinot Biancos that I can ever recall tasting. In fact, it is one of the top five white wines that I have ever tasted. Opulent, perfumed aromas of white peach, Arkansas Black apple, and nectarine, with a saline to hay-like mineral background abound in this Gem. Rich, lush, creamy and viscous in the mouth, this Gem has great complexity and acid structure ,and tons of depth with a long, mouthwatering finish. Although delicious right now, I believe Greg St.Clair when he asserts that it will cellar and improve with ten to twenty years of age. The Bean has informed me that this Gem will be one of our house whites for the next twenty years. Great label, too! 13.5% ABV

This is wonderful Pinot Bianco! The nose displays enticing notes of citrus and flowers, with a refined richness on the palate. Possessing lovely concentration of fruit, it is perfectly balanced by fresh acidity and an intriguing mineral/saline character.

This might be one of the greatest Pinot Biancos Iíve ever tasted. Despite its northerly position high in the Alps, the valley of Alto Adige heats up during the day in summer months, but then temperatures drop dramatically at night, giving this Pinot Bianco layers of rich, opulent melon and stone fruit, but also incredible acid structure and piercing minerality. Tasted at a recent staff seminar, it was a hands down crowd favorite. In fact, everyone totally flipped for it. Itís beautiful to drink now, but ages exceptionally well if you want to hold on to it for another 3 to 5 years. Amazing stuff!

I have never tasted a Pinot Bianco with so much intensity and complexity to it before this! This is a must try for Italian White Lovers, or for that matter, any White Wine Lovers that want to rev-up there palate and find that special wine to inspire your wine lovers soul. Leesy richness on the nose, with a pretty and rich gold colored hue to the glass, amazing texture and minerality on the palate with a finish that wont stop!

Wow. There is no question that this is one of the world's top Pinot Blancs. Perhaps it's the fact that it's italian, but it also happens to be on of the greatest values. Compare it to Austrian or Alsatian PB and you'll know exactly why this is one of the top producers in the Alto Adige. Fabulous value. N: Vibrant, explosive candied fruit, but very fresh not overly extracted or dense. P: Citrus and cream, tangerine peel and bright acid. A fabulous value.

Pinot Blanc

- Also known as Pinot Bianco in Italy and Weissburgunder in Germany and Austria, Pinot Blanc is thought to be a mutation of Pinot Gris (which is said to be a lighter mutation of Pinot Noir). While the varietal's roots are Burgundian (it was frequently confused with Chardonnay throughout history) it is rare there these days, instead finding its best iterations in France's Alsace, Germany's Pfalz and Baden, Austria's Wachau and in Italy's Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli and Lombardy winegrowing regions. It produces full-bodied whites with relatively high acidity, yeasty citrus and appley aromas and flavors and hints of spice. Aged Pinot Blancs take on lovely honeyed tones.
