2009 Olek Bondonio Barbaresco (Previously $50)
Reticent on the nose and closed down, this red hints at red berries, tea and earth flavors, all matched to a medium-bodied frame. Dense yet well-proportioned, with a lingering aftertaste of berry and mineral. Best from 2015 through 2027.
Evolved-looking mid ruby. Dried fruit and marasca cherry. Intense, aromatic finish. Unsettled at the moment, but certainly not lacking in extract. Lots of grainy tannin. Will reward cellaring.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Olek Bondonio's 2009 Barbaresco is soft, supple and at times a touch fragile. Dried red cherries, tobacco, sweet herbs and leather all grace the wine's medium-bodied frame. This inviting, forward Barbaresco is likely to offer its best drinking earlier rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. (AG)
This opens with earthy tones of leather, spice and cured meat. There are notes of dried fruit and cassis as well. It’s compact and still slightly astringent; drink after 2017.
