2012 Domaine de Viranel Viognier Vin de Pays de Cessenon (Previously $15)

SKU #1125132

From Château Viranel, deep in the South of France, comes this oh-so-charming Viognier. Owners Nicolas and Arnaud Bergasse-Milhé hand-harvest their Viognier grapes in the early morning hours in order to preserve its seductively aromatic bouquet. The wine is fermented at cool temperatures and remains on its lees for three months in order to develop just the requisite amount of additional richness and texture. The 2012 release displays a beautiful golden straw color with green highlights. A delicate bouquet of white flowers and citrus fruits are complemented by hints of sweet peach, honeysuckle, and meyer lemon on the palate. The finish is fresh, bright and marked by a snappy acidity to things balance. Enjoy this refreshing white with crab salad, smoked salmon, trout or on its own on a warm day! 13% abv.

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Viognier

- Relatively challenging to cultivate, this white grape's plantings were long limited to two appellations in the Northern Rhône - Condrieu, the better known of the two, and Château-Grillet - but its recent gains in popularity inspired plantings in the Languedoc-Roussillon, across California, as well as in parts of Australia, Italy, Spain and South America. Intensely aromatic and full-bodied, Viognier is prized for its aromas and flavors of stone fruits, d'Anjou pears and white flowers. In fact, its heady perfume wins it the honor of being a rare white varietal used in one of the world's top reds - Côte-Rôtie - where it is often planted amid the Syrah and co-fermented with that grape. The combination deepens the color of Côte-Rôtie and adds to its already deep and distinctive nose.
