2008 Trapiche "Vina Coletto" Malbec Tupungato
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2008 Malbec Single Vineyard Vina Cristina y Bibiana Coletto spent 18 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports an already complex bouquet of pain grille, mineral, spice box, lavender, and black cherry. Dense and opulent on the palate, this layered effort gracefully combines elegance and power. Give it 4-5 years to fully open and drink it from 2015 to 2028.
*Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2011* A little bit hickory-dominated on the bouquet, but also giving balsamic notes, blackberry and chocolate mint. The palate is linear due to a streak of cutting acidity, while the palate is also snappy with wild raspberry and bright plum flavors and plenty of wood tannin. A toasty finish with espresso and chocolate is fine and long. Drink now through 2017.

Bright medium ruby. Complex aromas of blackberry, black plum, violet pastille and licorice complemented by a wild forest floor scent and building oak. Quite vibrant but youthfully closed, with a strong herbal/spicy character contributing to the impression of spine. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and strong spicy oak and cola notes. Plenty of energy here, with a restrained sweetness. 90(+?) points
