2010 Jack Brooks Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously 60)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This juicy, fruit-driven 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack Brooks lacks complexity, but it reveals copious quantities of black currants and dusty, loamy soil notes in a medium-bodied, pure, fruity style. It should hold nicely for up to a decade.
A boutique production of only 100 cases, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon bottling from Jack Brooks Vineyard was sourced from their dry-farmed vineyard in Calistoga. The unique characteristics of the vineyard site show through in this concentrated and generous Cabernet, as enabled by the strict control of the vineyard and minimalist winemaking. After hand-harvesting and small-lot fermentation, the wine was aged for 22 months in 2/3 new French oak. From the winery: "It has a clean, brilliant ruby red color with aromatics of deep, dark fruits of dried plum, black currant and brandied cherries. A beautiful and subtle layer of fresh cracked pepper, violets and rosemary help create complexity and balance. On the palate, the mouthfeel is lush with integrated tannins that soften as the wine develops. The 2010 shows significant depth of perfectly ripe blackberry, black licorice, with an acid and tannin structure bringing harmony to the finish. This wine is a pleasure to enjoy right now and will age gracefully for many years to come."
