In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek, aptly named the "Trailside Vineyard." Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, "Trailside" is known for its overall powerful Cabernet varietal aromas and flavors and beguiling opulence. The 2003 has an intense nose, revealing this wine's signature bold blackberry fruit and cedar notes, with subtle dried floral and earth spice undertones. Its lushness is backed by firm tannins and vibrant acidity on the palate, and oak is integrating nicely as it evolves. Enjoy now or lay away for further development in bottle.
