This is impressive Ribera del Duero from an up and coming producer in La Horra, towards the eastern limit of the D.O. Working exclusivingly with old vine, en vaso (bush trained) Tempranillo, Asenjo y Manso manages to coax lots of flavor out of their fruit, without sacrificing classic Ribera del Duero typicity. Their 2008 crianza shows the admirable balance and structure of the vintage: dark fruits combine with mineral, some wood notes and balanced tannins to create a wine that is drinking well now, and will certainly continue to improve for another several years. The wine is organically farmed and fermented on native yeast.
