The 2011 Vizcarra Roble, 100% Tempranillo from organic vineyards, was aged seven months in both French and American oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sumptuous nose of blackberries, new saddle leather, licorice, camphor and crushed rocks. With a superb texture and full-bodied mouthfeel, and built like a skyscraper, this multidimensional Ribera del Duero is already drinking fabulously well. It should continue to do so for up to a decade. These are sensational values from the highly renowned appellation of Ribera del Duero. (8/ 2012)
Bright purple. Pungent aromas and flavors of candied black and blue fruits, licorice and violet, with a smoky overtone. Sappy and expansive, finishing with impressive power and slow-mounting tannins. (9/ 2012)
Vizcarra is back, this time with a juicy, red fruited expression of Ribera that is more about fruit and early drinkability than our previous Vizcarra Roble, but what a joy to drink! Mixed berry fruit flavors intermingle with hints of licorice in this forward Tempranillo based wine. The oak is very nicely balanced, providing some additional structure for drinking over the next several years, but there is no need to cellar; this wine is ready to go.
