Flirting with perfection, the 2011 Ermitage Le Pavillon is the most remarkable of these four cuvees. Intense blackberry liqueur notes intermixed with notions of creme de cassis, charcoal, licorice and black truffles are followed by a monumentally sized wine with colossal concentration. It is another masterpiece of richness, power, symmetry and complexity. Give it 3-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. (12/ 2012)
Opaque ruby. A heady, alluring bouquet evokes candied red fruits, potpourri, cracked pepper and Asian spices. Stains the palate with juicy black raspberry and cherry flavors that gain weight and a floral quality with aeration. Rich yet lively, finishing with superb clarity and lingering spiciness. The most Burgundian of this year's high-end Hermitages from Chapoutier, showing plenty of upfront sex appeal. (4/ 2013)
Dark, shiny crimson. Very meaty, savoury and the most obviously stereotypically Hermitage. Polished tannins but they are there in abundance. Very notable acidity and bone dry fruit. Wait ages before opening this. Lots of fresh, characterful fruit. Very serious indeed - for enormous eventual pleasure. 18.5/20 points. (8/ 2012)
