The 2011 Chardonnay Mt. Harlan bursts from the glass with expressive apricots, peaches, crushed rocks, French oak and spices. Rich yet weightless, the 2011 is striking from the very first taste. Once again, Calera's Mt. Harlan Chardonnay is world-class. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (12/ 2012)
From Calera's limestone-rich, organically farmed estate Mt. Harlan vineyard, this glorious Chardonnay has it all: unctuous fruit, creamy richness balanced by focused acidtiy, and some real compelexity with potential to develop further in bottle. It was all hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, followed by aging for ten months in primarily used (30% new) French oak barrels. Winemaker's notes: "Honeycomb and citrus zest, sandalwood, wild rose and jasmine; such a beautiful bouquet emanate from this 2011 Mt Harlan Chardonnay. Flavors of soft French oak, limestone minerality and sweet cigar accent Pippin apple, pear and crème brulée. Smooth and silky on the palate and lush like vanilla caramel. This wine is tight in its youth, hinting to a long life ahead."
