Domaine Girard is a fifth-generation producer situated west of Carcassonne in the town of Alaigne, within the little-known AOC of Malepère in Southwest France. Here the silt and clay soils, altitude, and coastal Mediterranean influences temper the region's warm temperatures to allow for the development of fruit with concentration and character. "Tradition" is blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot that was all hand-harvested, and fermented and raised entirely in tank. Supple and full-bodied red, with fine tannins and a smooth mouthfeel, this is simply bursting with ripe blue and red fruit flavors that are accented by spicy notes on palate and the finish. This is a delicious, food-friendly red you can enjoy with traditional hearty dishes of the Aude - cassoulet, anyone? - or a variety of Mediterranean cuisine. 13.5% abv.
