2011 Qupé Central Coast Syrah (375ml)
Qupe's 2011 Syrah is gorgeous. Dark red cherries meld into plums and violets in this gracious, impeccably balanced Syrah. Deceptively medium in body, the 2011 is all about texture and weightlessness. A long, refined finish rounds things out nicely. The 2011 is a blend of fruit from 8 different sites, roughly 75% from Santa Barbara and 25% Edna Valley. Drinking window: 2013 - 2019 This set of wines from Qupe and Bob Lindquist is full of highlights. The entry-level reds in particular are impressive and worthy of serious consideration.
Allen Meadows - Burghound
Open and pretty, with the heady scent of wild mulberries, this is drinkable, restrained syrah. Its firm acidity and lift would match pork loin roasted with rosemary.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A classic, straightforward and delicious Syrah that has ripe berry fruit, leather, licorice and sappy underbrush, the 2011 Syrah is medium-bodied, lively and clean on the palate. Pure, balanced and delicious, with juicy acidity, it should evolve gracefully for 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. (JD)
Offers a tight core of pepper-laced dark berry, hot brick, game and cedar, ending with firm, cleansing tannins. Drink now through 2019.
