 Well-defined, ripe-berry fruit sits comfortably at the center of this well-balanced bottling and keeps it on track even as a bit of youthful tannin comes on to toughen things at the end. While the wine is not long on polish or finesse, it is nicely stuffed and has a sense of energy that ensures good things ahead for those willing to wait for a couple of years.  (1/ 2013)

K&L Notes

Low-key Limerick Lane was listed on the "Excellent" list in Robert Parker's "Best producers of Zinfandel" guide, 1999, and has continued to satisfy its faithful with bright red berry, elegant table wine interpretations of the varietal. This 2010 was the last Sonoma County Zinfandel produced by Limerick Lane under the ownership of Mike Collins. Since 2011, the winery has been run by the Bilbro family, which bodes well for its future.

The 2011 Sonoma County is a food friendly wine that shows a briary, fruity character up front, with a fresh and medium body middle, and a spicy finish. This wine is not over extracted or overly fruity but rather in a more balanced style. Itís a perfect Zin to pair with Barbeque chicken or pork.

Zinfandel

- The bid to name Zinfandel California's "State Varietal" may have failed, but this red wine grape, grown extensively in California since the mid-1800s, is grown in few other places in the world. Sadly, much of what's cultivated today is planted where it's too hot and flat. But when planted to well-drained, hillside vineyards that are warm but not too hot, like those in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley and Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, Zinfandel can produce wines with plenty of character. High in natural alcohol and tannin, grown carefully it can be rich and complex, with dark fruit berry fruit and peppery spice. The most known example of Zinfandel outside of California is Italy's Primitivo, which can be similar in style, but is often a bit lighter and less alcoholic than West Coast examples.
