The South of France has been, for the last 10 years, a good source for value Chardonnay. Though many of the Southern French versions don't have the complexity of Burgundy, they are FAR less expensive. In May of 2012, we tasted this delicious Chardonnay from Domaine de Chambert that has the richness and full-throttle style of our most popular California Chardonnay, but with fine acidity that cuts through all that oak and fruit. Even though I'm not generally a fan of this richer style, the wine's balance makes it appealing to me, and it will also appeal to anyone who loves an oaky Chardonnay. If you prefer your Chardonnay on the crisp side, chill this wine well; if you like a richer texture, serve it a bit warmer. This is an excellent wine to serve with lobster or cracked crab dipped in lemon butter. Enjoy over the next year. (Clyde Beffa Jr., K&L) 13% abv.
