 There is nothing subtle about the 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella. This intense, fruit-driven wine comes across as super-ripe and jammy at first, but with air an attractive inner sweetness gradually emerges as notes of spices, chocolate and sweet toasted oak take on a more prominent role. This, too, is an especially concentrated wine, but there is more than enough harmony to make me think it will develop nicely in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.  (10/ 2008)

 A rich Amarone, with prune, date and a hint of spice on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and good fruit on the finish. Well-balanced, clean and long. Turns a little austere right at the end, but a little time should even this out. Best after 2010.  (2/ 2009)

Trabucchi's Amarone is made from the indigenous Corvina and Corvinone grapes, with a little cherry-scented Rondinella, crisp Oseleta, and the floral and fruity and Croatina grape. The aroma, according to the winery, typically recalls dried rose petals, plums, wild cherries and candied fruits.
