Vivid ruby. A pungent bouquet displays scents of blackcurrant, candied cherry, licorice, tobacco and smoky herbs. Supple and pliant, offering sharply focused dark berry and cherry compote flavors, silky tannins and a sexy floral quality. Smoothly combines richness and vivacity and finishes with outstanding cut.

The soft, delicious 2010 Gigondas Les Racines is, surprisingly, more open-knit than I remember it from last year. Abundant notes of red and black currants, raspberries, garrigue, crushed rock and peppery spice are all present in this medium to full-bodied, elegant yet substantial, authoritative Gigondas. It should drink well for 12-15+ years.

Very juicy but refined, featuring a blood orange and clove frame to the core of blackberry, plum and cherry fruit. Alder and singed vanilla bean hints, along with an echo of tobacco, grace the finish. Finely beaded acidity should let this come together fully, with mid-term cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2022.

Very distinctive style, as though exposed to much more oxygen than most. Already looks quite evolved. Ruby and shaded. Rather dull nose. Sweet, dusty, plummy fruit on the front palate already - lots of pleasure! Massive fruit delivery almost covers up tannins on the finish. 17/20 points.
