Excellent ripeness for the vintage, with focused red and black cherry and plum fruit. Also shows judicious toast, along with mineral and coffee notes on the supple finish. (5/ 2006)
Ruby-red. Highly spicy, vanilla-laced boysenberry and cassis aromas complemented by mocha and anise. Lush and supple, with sweet blackberry and blackcurrant flavors and gently rounded tannins. Finishes clean and sweet, the spice notes reappearing. This spent 38 months in new barriques. (2/ 2007)
4% Viognier. A hint of new oak on the nose. Lots of acidity and a bit severe still -- though not as severe as the 2001. Still a bit youthful though. Wood smoky perfume. Very good constitution. Excellent for a 2002. Still a bit drying on the finish. 17/20 points. (6/ 2006)
