The basic 2010 Cotes du Rhone is excellent. It exhibits very good ripeness and lots of minerality along with floral, red and dark fruit notes. (10/ 2012)
Montfaucon crafts their Côtes du Rhône to express the intense fruit characteristics of the appellation. A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault and 10% Carignan, the wine has been fermented and aged in concrete tanks for 18 months. Concrete fermentation and aging is a common method in France, but also now being adopted even for premium Rhone-styled wines in the New World. Fruit quality in the Rhone in 2010 was excellent at all levels, and the results certainly show in the basic wines as well as the finest. The wine's nose shows cherry, framboise, and currant with hints of pepper and violet. These characteristics reverberate on the palate with fine mouthfeel and silky tannins. 14% abv.
