This wine has some big shoulders. There’s a dusty, aged quality, with sophisticated, silky tannins and tertiary aromas of black licorice, dried tobacco, peppercorn and dried berry fruit. It’s firm, tight and compact; age 10 more years.

Aromas of ripe raspberries and strawberries follow through to a full body, with tangy ctirusy character and round silky tannins. Juicy and flavorful. Drink now or hold.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a beautifully delineated, nuanced wine laced with freshly cut flowers, spices, dark berries and licorice. All the elements come together beautifully in this gracious, classy and understated Riserva. Sweet notes from the oak linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.

Good medium red. High-pitched perfume of red berries, flowers and spices. Plush, ripe and sweet, with an element of musky oak complementing the cherry and licorice flavors. In a distinctly glyceral style but nicely brisk for its richness. Finishes smooth and classy, with suave tannins and subtle length. A very good riserva, and light years beyond the estate's 2006 classico.

This has density, with a core of cherry, spice, tobacco and earth flavors. Balanced and fresh, with a supple texture and underlying chewiness courtesy of the gripping tannins. Offers a fine, minerally aftertaste. Better than previously reviewed. Best from 2014 through 2030.
