Classic Edna Valley Chardonnay, dry, minerally and crisp in acidity, with strong, upfront tangerine, pineapple and pear flavors. A clean, brisk and tasty Chardonnay for drinking now with salmon or ham. (7/ 2011)
Fossil Point is named for the rugged headland in San Luis Obispo County which features sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Central Coast. The winery's estate vineyard is located five miles inland in Edna Valley with its soil of ancient calcareous shale which was uplifted from the sea floor millennia ago. This 2009 Chardonnay was sourced from this estate vineyard and fermented in stainless steel and neutral French oak. From the winery: "The 2009 vintage greets you with lively citrus zest and Asian pear aromas. On the palate, the wine shows hints of creaminess while finishing with balanced crispness, making it a versatile match for many dishes."
