From a vineyard in Arroyo Grande, the 2009 Syrah Les Galets is richer, darker and spicier than the Larner. Black pepper, tapenade, grilled herbs and flowers all come together in this virile, imposing wine. The Galets marries expressive varietal notes with massive fruit and equally imposing tannins. It needs at least another 6-12 months to start showing at its best, but it is magnificent, even today. The Galets was fermented with 40% whole clusters and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019. (93+) (8/ 2012)
Dense and potent, brimming with a rich mix of dark berry, mocha, espresso, cedar, rhubarb, bacon fat and graphite. Full-blown, luscious and expansive on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 272 cases made. (6/ 2012)
A little more refined and sleek in character. Medium to full body, with firm tannins and a bright acidity. Pure Syrah. Classy young wine. Better in 2012. (10/ 2011)
Quoting Wine Advocate's Antonio Galloni: "I found a lot to like in these new releases from McPrice Myers. The wines are made from a variety of appellations in the Central Coast." (08/12)
