This vineyard, at the gravelly base of a limestone slope, sits on the left bank of the Vienne River; the vines date from 1962 through 1975. If you open the wine now, give it plenty of time in a decanter to evolve past its oak; what slowly emerges is a scent of persimmon, of strawberries and meaty spice, along with a riper note of figs and black cherries. It builds into something juicy, luscious and beautiful, as it will in the cellar. (4/ 2012)
This is a lovely, ripe wine, its plum character very evident. It has a cool character as well, the acidity pushing through. Aged in wood (not new), the wine has a polished feel on the finish. (6/ 2011)
Richly layered, with smoldering tobacco and charcoal notes weaving through steeped blackberry, currant paste and mulled cherry fruit flavors. A charcoal edge hangs through the finish, lending a firm feel. Best from 2013 through 2018. (10/ 2012)
