The Bargetto family has been producing fine wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains for nearly 80 years. The third generation is now at the helm of the winery, and they oversee their Regan Estate Vineyard which overlooks the Monterey Bay from a perfect southwestern-facing slope. This Chardonnay is 92% sourced from the Regan Vineyard, which is tended with sustainable practices and features a long growing season perfect for this cool climate and age worthy wine. The wine spent 12 months in 33% new French oak and it represents an excellent value for this region which is getting a lot more attention for its Chardonnays in recent years. From the winery: "Our 2010 Santa Cruz County Chardonnay has the color of bright golden straw. The aroma begins with sweet French oak and butterscotch; then comes some lovely gala apple, lemon, and a touch of melon on the end. The palate is full-bodied and dry. The oak shows early, but then gives way to the fruit and finishes with a crisp acidity."
