*Good Value* Here is a bright and buoyant young wine whose message is one of fresh, strawberry-like fruit, and, if never complex or showing a great deal of reach, it is a compulsively drinkable, wonderfully well-balanced effort. The Joel Gott label has consistently scored well for value, and this vibrant Rhône blend hits the mark again. (7/ 2012)
This Rhone-style blend of 77% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, and 2% Petite Sirah was sourced from select vineyards in Monterey County and Knight's Valley. It was aged in 60% new French oak and represents an excellent value in California red wine. From the winery: "The 2010 Alakai from Joel Gott has aromas of raspberries, white pepper, cinnamon and spice. Bright red fruit flavors are followed by a sweet fruit mid-palate and a smooth, seamless finish. The wine is balanced with good acidity and well-integrated oak."
