Eleven is a new label from Andrew Murray, winemaker at the eponymously named, family-owned winery in Los Olivos on California's Central Coast. Eleven captures Murray's rebellious spirit, and gives him an outlet to make wines from something other than Rhône varietals. Priced with the hardships of the current economy in mind, these wines are "like getting a deal on great seats at a concert and the band playing two encores," says Murray. The 2009 Central Coast Red is mostly made from Cab and Cab Franc, but there's a bit of Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Grenache playing harmony. Earthy, spicy and full of rich fruit, you'll want this one on hand for hanging out in the backyard with the stereo cranked, for jam sessions, or for dinner with the kind of friends where "top 5 bands" and "top 5 b-sides" are the topic of conversation.
Below is a listing of the wine review scores we frequently reference in our notes. While these sources remain an excellent source of information, we always recommend that you trust your own palate. Scores in these publications often represent the personal taste of an individual critic, which may not always coincide with your own.
