Cool weather overall in St Helena and specically for Phelps' Spring Valley Ranch vineyard translated to reduced yields of bright Sauvignon Blanc fruit with excellent flavor development and natural acidity. Picked early to preserve freshness and chilled before pressing, the wine was barrel fermented with native yeast and aged for eight months in 70% used (30% new) French oak puncheons, with lees stirring both during and after fermentation to promote the development of ricness and complexity. Winemaker Notes: "The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc offers perfumed aromatics of jasmine flowers, Kaffir lime leaf, orange blossom and lemon cream frosting. The medium-bodied mouth feel lends balanced acidity followed by bright flavors of melon and citrus with a long, fresh finish."
