2001 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling "Thann"
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
For the first time, Humbrecht opted to vinify separately the youngest vines (21 years old) in his parcel of Rangen de Thann. The 2001 Riesling Thann (indice 1) has smoky mineral aromas as well as a quinine, stone, and ripe citrus fruit-filled personality. A juicy, focused, medium-bodied wine, its smoky character and aromatics scream out its vineyard of origin. A superb vin de terroir, it should be consumed between 2004 and 2012.

Aromas of yellow plum, flint and smoke. Chewy and a bit aggressive, with strong wet stone flavor intensified by firm limey acidity. A bit disjointed today, but this riesling really coats the palate. This, too, went through malolactic, and yet it gives a rather high-acid impression.
