2009 Corbin, St-Emilion

SKU #1112092 92 points James Suckling

Beautiful fruit of crushed raspberries and cherries, with hints of minerals. Full body, with firm tannins and a chewy finish. Give it two or three years to come together in the bottle. (2/ 2012)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Showing far superior from bottle than it did from cask, this blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc is one of the more gloriously fruity, sumptuously textured wines of St.-Emilion. A pure, hedonistic fruit bomb with terrific texture, a full-bodied mouthfeel and impressive purity and depth, this is a wine worth lining up for to fill up your trunk, since it is usually one of the best values in grand cru classes from St.-Emilion. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. (2/ 2012)

92 points Wine Spectator

This focused red is restrained in flavor, but shows excellent balance and concentration. Plum, mineral and toast notes mingle harmoniously over refined tannins, giving way to a floral, spicy finish. Drink now through 2022. (3/ 2012)

Jancis Robinson

Blackish crimson. Almost stewed it's so strong in its impact on the nose! Sweet and velvety. Lots and lots of effort in this - almost as though every single tannin had been individually polished. If you go for Napa richness, this is the wine for you. (4/ 2010)

Varietal:

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
