The few extra years in the bottle has really helped soften this wine up. Gone are the fierce tannins described in the review from the Wine Enthusiast. This wine is drinking excellent right now! Still plenty of mountain fruit, the wine still has big shoulders but flavors and aromas of crushed berry and black cherry dominate. Hints of toasty oak and a fleshy finish linger on the palate. A great buy for a ready to drink Cab at nearly half the price! (Trey Beffa, K&L Domestic buyer)

The fruit on this wine is big, ripe, not dense however it has a sweet cassis like flavor, low tannins and really pretty easy drinking right now. Soft, lush and smooth enough to drink on its own but would be great with some grilled ribs. Outstanding deal for the price point. I read the Wine Enthusiast's review of "fierce mountain tannins", age must have helped because this wine has NO FIERCE TANNINS, just supple and smooth.

Such soft velvety tannins!Dried cherries and leather, one of the finest ready to drink Cabernets I have had all year. If you are a cab drinker or are getting a jump on the holidays this is one that you'll want on hand.

Delicious. But there may be cork issues. I ordered two bottles, and when I opened the first one, the cork immediately disintegrated. Took awhile to clean out all of the cork particles, but it was worth it.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
