2011 Bodegas Puelles Blanco Rioja

SKU #1111379

Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. Most of the grapes for his red wines come from his own 20 hectares, which are north facing and located at 600 meters in altitude, affording the visitor with one of the most dramatically beautiful views of Rioja's main mountain ranges: the Sierra Cantabria mountains immediately to the north and the Sierra de la Demanda mountains to the south. This white wine consists primarily of Viura, but also has some Garnacha Blanca, Malvasia and Chenin Blanc in the blend. Bright, clean apple and citrus flavors combine with terrific minerality to make this perhaps one of the best young white Riojas I have tasted year to date. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)

Oh deliciousness! Viura is the dominant grape here, but there is also Garnacha Blanca, Malvasia and Chenin Blanc in the blend. Lovely pear, apple, minerality with a nice leesy finish. Medium plus acid and very well-balanced. Hello quaffable goodness!

This has to be one finest Rioja Blancos that I have ever tasted. Pronounced, distinctive aromas of dandelion to melon to white pepper notes will abound from your glass upon opening that leads to a rich, incredibly complex set of bright, fresh fruit flavors, which lingers in a long, fulfilling finish. This is an amazing white wine Gem at a ridiculously low price to which Rizzo has deemed as our house white for however long it is around. 12.0% ABV
Drink from 2012 to 2015
