2005 Milos "Stagnum" Plavac Peljesac Peninsula

SKU #1110698

Made from 100% Plavac Mali from the Peljesac Peninsula in Croatia, in a rustic, traditional style. This shows spicy berry and earth aromas and flavors, with smoky mineral undertones and developing notes of savory complexity. Medium-bodied, with firm, chewy tannins, this is just starting to come together and soften at the edges. Decant to enjoy in the near term with hearty beef or game dish, or lay away another half decade for further evolution in bottle. From the importer: "On the beautiful mountainous peninsula of Peljesac, just outside the ancient town of Ston, you'll find a true artisan producer, Frano Milos. The land is blessed with very old dolomite limestone bedrock with sand to protect from disease. Plavac Mali is the king in this land and is a cross between the original Zinfandel (Crljenak) and Dobricic grapes. Milos has some of the best positions on the peninsula with steep sloping vineyards looking down on the seaside. One of the most typical, flavorful Plavac Malis made by artisan wine maker Frano Milos. Indeed, this wine is a piece of art, a great testament of what this Dalmatian signature grape Plavac can be. This wine is made in a very traditional style."
