Haut-Poitou is an often looked over region that rests a bit south of Chinon. It is a region that produces many different varietals including Chardonnay, Chenin, Gamay, both Cabernets, Pinot and, as is the case here, Sauvignon Blanc. The topsoils are a mixture of thin clay-chalk and/or clay-silica with a hard base of pure chalk. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc is directly pressed, fermented at a low temperature and then allowed to rest on its lees until bottling in the spring. It has a nice pale yellow color and is light and fruity on the nose, with subtle grass and exotic fruits on the palate and soft mineral notes on the finish. Great to have as an aperitif or with lighter shellfish dishes. And it's pretty easy on the wallet too!
