Bright ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, fresh rose and allspice. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering flavors of sweet red berries, candied flowers and five-spice powder. Finishes spicy and precise, with gentle tannins and very good length. An elegant rendition of the variety that clocks in at a modest 13.5% alcohol, which is lower even than many pinots from this neck of the woods. (11/ 2012)

Exuberant red fruit pours out of this wine, grown by the Lindquist family on a hilly site planted in 2005, Demeter certified in 2009. It’s clean and spicy on the surface, with some earthy grit driving the light tannins underneath. A summery red for lamb chops off the grill. (500 cases) (8/ 2012)

This young vineyard is producing very good quality grenache. Bright, savory, slightly peppery and wonderfully balanced. If you like Grenache that is not in the riper style, then this would be a good one to try.

This is a wine that makes me look forward to summer bbq's! Bright red cherry and raspberry fruit, floral and lightly spicy, with soft peppery spice and tanins. A truly refreshing, low abv red to sip outside with chicken or lamb fresh off the grill.

Red cherry, raspberry, pepper, spice, mineral with medium plus acidity and medium tannin. This wine is from the Demeter certified Biodynamic Sawyer Linquist vineyard in Edna Valley. A distinct, varietally correct, delicious Grenache. Awesome.

Grenache

- Fat, ripe and rich with ample fruit and vibrant acidity, wines made from Grenache are easy to love. While its origins are still under dispute - some suggest Spain, where it is called Garnacha, while others say it came first from Sardinia, where it is called Cannonau - it is inarguably one of the most planted varietals in the world. A hearty grape, Grenache does well in hot, dry regions and its sturdy stalk also makes it well-suited to withstand blustery conditions like the Provençal Mistral. It ripens at relatively high sugar levels, which translates to higher potential alcohol in the wines it produces. Grenache may be most famous in the Southern Rhône areas such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas where it has long been an important component of delicious blends. But it's also the source of the crisp rosés from Tavel, Lirac and Provence, and age-worthy vins doux naturels like Rivsaltes and Banyuls. Grenache is also found in large swaths of northeastern Spain, in Navarre, in Rioja, where it plays a supporting role in blends with Tempranillo, and in the distinctive wines of Priorat. The grape was once the most widely planted varietal in Australia, though Shiraz and Cabernet have overtaken it. In California, Grenache plantings have dwindled from their heyday in the San Joaquin Valley, but it is starting to see a resurgence, albeit in smaller plantings, where other Rhône varietals thrive.
