*Highly Recommended* Very balanced and lively, with well-defined flavors of red peach, melon, baked apple and spice. Well-concentrated, with a long, luscious, cream- and vanilla-filled finish. Mouthwatering. Drink now through 2040. (3/ 2012)
I've been wondering when this estate was going to make its comeback for many years now and the time has come. Schloss Vollrads is one of the oldest wine estates in the world, with documented wine records going back to 1211. There was a huge downturn in quality during the 90's and then a horrible death in 1999. To be honest, I was hesitant to even taste the wines up until the 2008 vintage. Since then I have started seeing a step up in quality and have been keeping a close eye on the property ever since. I just tasted the 2010 Spätlese and absolutely flipped out over it! The balance, which it severely lacked in the past, is the driving force behind this and is brilliantly interwoven with dense fruit and a mouth awakening finish. I 'sampled" this over a three day span and was really bummed when I realized it was gone. (Eric Story, German Buyer)
