Light, vivid red. Intense, spice-accented aromas of red berries, rose and licorice, with a mineral topnote. Lively, piercing red fruit flavors show very good definition and gain sweetness with air. Floral and spice notes dominate the long, focused, seamless finish. This wine, which clocks in at only 12.4% alcohol, could stand up to plenty of serious wines from Beaujolais. (5/ 2012)
Unlike most Gamay planted in California, which is actually Valdiguie, the Gamay that Steve Edmunds uses for the Bone Jolly is Gamay Noir a'Jus Blanc, the same grape that makes Beaujolais. And that's what this bright, crisp red wine is redolent of, with its strawberry preserve, mineral and spice qualities. Wonderful.
