Although on the charming side, and ready to drink, this does not lack for energy and character. It is terrific Chardonnay, partially done in stainless and partially in wood foudres. Carmalized citrus fruit, with hints of grassand a beautiful flinty minerality overwhelm the nose of this '11 Pouilly Fuisse.

The most delightful 2011 Pouilly-Fuisse for under $20 I have tasted yet! This Direct Import White Burgundy is full of elegance and refreshing Zip! All old-vine Chardonnay fruit makes for a very expressive wine. One the nose, aromatics of slight floral and stone fruit of white peace and citrus, almost a limey minerality coming through. Soft but super textured on the mid palate with high acid and good length. Definitely a more feminine style of Pouilly-fuisse perfect for summer. And great for anyone who doesn't like a heavy Chardonnay, this one is light on its feet and very very food friendly!

Always a K&L favorite, and nothing has changed with this vintage. This is a small domaine, with only 12 hectares, with vines growing in the Macon, Pouilly-Fuisse, and St. Veran. You can immediately see that this is a step up from the previous wines. This comes from the best sites, with the highest limestone content. This is a wine of poise and balance. It is the best of both of the above wine, the aromatics of the Charnay and the poises and purity of the Solutre. This wine delivers more than you would expect from this appellation.

Chardonnay

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut. In France's Burgundy, Chardonnay is the source of the prized wines of Chablis, Corton-Charlemagne, Mâcon, Meursault and Montrachet. Burgundy

- The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Côte d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Côte de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Côte de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Côte d'Or.
