1996 Grand-Puy Ducasse, Pauillac
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This estate, which tends to turn out forward, soft Pauillacs, has made a firm, structured wine. The color is a healthy dark ruby with purple nuances. The nose offers up aromas of cassis, dusty, earthy notes, tobacco leaf, cedar, and spice. Medium-bodied, with excellent depth and ripeness, and the Cabernet Sauvignon component dominating its personality, this is a fine Grand-Puy-Ducasse
Aromas of cedar and mint. A typical '96 with lots of power and depth, good tannins, and a sweetness in the middle. The fruit and tannins are well balanced, and the outstanding extraction of fruit allows this wine to be a delicious choice now and for the next 10-15 years. A sleeper for the vintage.
