The 2006 Poggiarellino Brunello Riserva has yet to be reviewed by the major wine critics, but if that matters to you the regular 2006 Brunello just received 94 points from the Wine Spectator. This Riserva has the powerful, classic flavor profile of Poggiarellino; the wild marasca cherry coupled with earth, tobacco and spice are readily apparent, but what sets this wine apart are its density and structure. The layers of spice and fruit are joined with a big, dense, powerful structure where evident tannin and the wine's interior core of acidity come together and give length and direction to the wine. Right now this wine seems huge, but it is just a bit of baby fat and rambunctious young tannin--a little boyhood vigor--in another year it will seem much more balanced. It will be drinkable in a couple of years, but this is a wine that will definitely age 15-20 years plus without an issue. This is the most impressive of all the Poggiarellino Brunello we have carried before. You won't be disappointed! (Greg St. Clair, K&L Italian Wine Buyer)
