2010 Moric Blaufränkisch Burgenland
Moric's Blaufränkisch is one of the best on the market and a favorite among K&L staff. (I also spied a bottle prominently displayed in the Vienna episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations.) Made in a style that's best described as Burgundian, the 2010 is wonderfully elegant, with bright cherry fruit, spice, tangy acidity and deftly integrated tannins. Long and elegant, this might be even better than the excellent 2007, benefitting from a stellar vintage and a few more years experience in the vineyards (and a few more parcels). Sees no new wood.
