Young and appropriately vibrant and grapey. Homes in on pure currant and blackberry fruit, veering briefly toward cedar and tobacco before tightening on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2024. (12/ 2012)
An overall cool summer in 2010 extended hang times and delayed fruit maturity into mid-October and beyond. Like many Napa producers, Caymus summarizes the vintage as producing a reduced quantity of high quality Cabernet marked by their signature style of rich, texured wine with cassis, chocolate tones and ripe fruit. Twenty-five percent mountain-grown fruit structures the wine to complement the generosity of the plush valley fruit. From winemaker Chuck Wagner, "The flavors in this wine are genuinely good, but the textural elements are its most exceptional feature. The entry wanders, deliberating, then evolves and expands to cocoa-like fine tannins in harmony with oak, fruit and acidity. A balanced and harmonious wine with a long evolution."
