Bright straw. Lime, lemongrass and white flowers on the nose and palate. Dry and precise but shows good heft and breadth, offering juicy pear and citrus flavors and a hint of white pepper. Finishes with good cut, grip and length, the pear note repeating. (10/ 2011)
Pear, almond and smoke notes mingle in this broad white. This has a generous texture, and firm underlying acidity. Drink now. (Web-2012)
100% Albarino from Spain's Rias Baixas region. Noted wine writer and critic John Tilson of the Underground Wine Letter writes: "Outstanding. Light yellow in color this wine has a lovely perfume with hints of melon, citrus, and peach with a faint floral mineral undertone. It is finesseful and balanced with gorgeous fruit hinting of melon and citrus with a faint minerality. This is delicious wine that rates very high on the drinkability scale." (02/12) From the producer: "As always, a perfect aperitif wine, as we have come to expect from Vionta Albariņo. It has a brisk and tempting acidity that stimulates the appetite. Pairs very well with cold cracked crab or any grilled white-fleshed fish. But with its layers of flavor, it would also work well with a spicy Thai red curry or a Chinese black bean sauce. Also try it with grilled mushrooms, chilled avocado soup or a mild blue cheese."
