2007 Château Musar "Hochar Père et Fils" Red Bekaa Valley
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2007 Hochar Pere et Fils, basically the estate’s second wine, is made in an accessible style. A blend of 50% Cinsault, 20% Grenache and 15% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan, it is silky in texture with a sensual and elegant feel to it, adding an overlay of tasty, up-front fruit. Given its relatively late release, it is laid back, soft, caressing and gentle with well-integrated tannins. To complete that picture, the wine is also bright and bursting with flavor....Drink now-2017.
Winemaker notes: "Hochar Père et Fils Red has been described as the 'second' wine of Chateau Musar, and it does bear some resemblance to the 'Grand Vin': rich, spicy and profoundly fruity, with a mellow quality derived from lengthy oak- and bottle ageing. Since its launch in the late 1980s, it has been sourced from a single Bekaa Valley vineyard planted in the 1940s. When young, the wines are robust and aromatic, with baked plum, warm earth, leather, thyme and dark chocolate characters. With age they become tawnier and spicier."
