Classic Zinfandel, rich and robust and high in alcohol, with enormously ripe blackberry, cherry and raspberry fruit flavors, sprinkled with Zin’s pepper, cinnamon and clove spices. This full-bodied wine raises Zinfandel’s rustic nature to Napa elegance. (12/ 2011)
With top notes of sweet berries and suggestions of dark soil in the nose, this fleshy, fully ripe, fairly broad-shouldered working is solidly varietal in focus. It hints just a little at dried grapes as it finishes, yet it does a very good job at hiding its heat, and it is fit with enough central fruit to stay the course for a few years as its nominal tannins ease. (1/ 2012)
The 2009 Zinfandel Blocks 7 & 22 comes across as rather evolved. Crushed flowers, dried red fruit and sweet herbs linger on a delicate, fleeting finish that suggests the wine needs to be drunk sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. (12/ 2011)
Well-focused, with cherry and cracked pepper aromas and appealing but tightly wound plum, loam and cedar flavors. Best after 2013. (5/ 2012)
