This is Von Strasser's second label, but owner Rudy Von Strasser still seems to put his heart and soul into every bottle. Von Strasser's first gig out of UC Davis's enology program was an internship at Lafite Rothschild, which might explain why his attention to detail surpasses so many others. The Rudy PS includes 10% Merlot, 6% Cab and 3% Petit Verdot to balance out the bold Petite Sirah fruit. The 2009 version is lovely, with luscious blackberry and Flavor King pluot on the nose and palate, a dusting of cocoa powder and just a kiss of spice (this was done in mostly neutral oak). Supple, integrated tannins. This fresh Petite Sirah is ready to drink now!
