What decadence and softness to this with slightly raised acidity, but I really appreciate the toasted oak, ripe fruit and citrusy aftertaste. Turns to toffee. Intense young wine. Give it three to four years to come together. Why wait? It will improve for years to come. (1/ 2011)
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Franci is darker, richer and more substantial in style than the regular bottling, but I am not sure it is or will be a more pleasurable wine. Black cherries, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice and leather take shape as this powerful, burly Brunello reveals its powerful personality. The Franci should be at its best in a few years, once the French oak has softened a bit. (5/ 2011)
The evident oak element in this hearty Brunello needs time to integrate because the spice, toasted nut, clove and crushed peppercorn aromas are still strong. But the mouthfeel is soft, plush and shows great potential. (4/ 2011)
