*Editors' Choice* Textbook Napa Cab. It's dry, smoothly tannic and subtle, with blackberry, cassis and dark chocolate flavors nicely intrigued with herbs, tobacco and cedar. Just delicious now and for the next few years. (6/ 2012)
(blended with 11% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 2% syrah and 1% each malbec and petit verdot): Uncorked and poured immediately: Bright red-ruby. Pure but reticent nose hints at currant, cedar, flowers and fresh herbs. Supple, silky and rather easygoing, with fruit-driven flavors of redcurrant and cherry. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins. From another bottle decanted three hours before my tasting: Similar color. Chocolate and wild herbs on the nose. Deeper and longer than the first sample, with a more sophisticated quality to the tannins. (5/ 2012)
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific value. Mint, violets, black cherries, licorice and tar are some of the nuances that emerge from this gorgeous, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon. Readers will be hard pressed to find another wine that delivers this much quality for the money. In 2009 the blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Syrah, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. (12/ 2011)
