Finca Domingo's 2011 Torrontes comes from a Cafayate vineyard located at 5500 feet of elevation. Its fragrant tropical fruit aromas set the stage for a dry, medium-bodied, vibrant wine with a lingering, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. (12/ 2011)
Pale bright yellow. Steely aromas of citrus peel, wild herbs, minerals and licorice turned muskier with air. Round and juicy in the mouth, with citrus and spice flavors dominating. Not quite as complex as the nose suggests, but nicely fresh and persistent. (4/ 2012)
Argentina has been the focus of a lot of international interest over the past couple of decades, so it's a rarity when you find a winery owned and run by native Argentines. That is Hermanos, started by brothers Osvaldo "Palo" Domingo and Martin Domingo around 1960 when they acquired a small piece of land in Cafayate. This project is making some very good, very affordable wine from vineyards located between 5800-8300 feet (yes, you are reading correctly!) up in the Salta region of Argentina.Today the winery is run by the next generation of brothers, Palo's sons Osvaldo, Gabriel and Rafael. Their Torrontés comes from a high-elevation vineyard in Salta (5,576 feet), and is wonderfully refreshing and bright. Grassy, with citrus and tropical fruit notes.
